Yeast Infections – Symptoms of Candidiasis
Candidiasis (or yeast infection as it is most commonly known) is an infection caused by the Candida fungi group. The most common fungi to cause a problem are Candida albicans. A Candida infection can cause superficial infections like diaper and skin rash and vaginal Candidiasis but can also cause more chronic and life threatening infections too. Some of these more life threatening infections can start off as something less threatening like a vaginal yeast infection or skin rash.
The most common areas of Candidiasis are warm moist body areas such as the mouth and diaper areas in babies. Oral yeast infections become much more common as one gets older. A yeast infection that returns time and time again is usually a sign of a more serious underlying issue.
Symptoms of Candidiasis can be vary depending upon the location of the yeast infection.
Generally the most common infection that is talked about is vaginal yeast infection. This causes irritation in and around the vagina. Symptoms include thick white discharge (that usually has no smell), soreness and irritation. In the male version, a white discharge may also be present as well as red patchy sores near the head of the penis. Generally though it seems more common for a man to have no symptoms.
Oral candidiasis can occur in both adults and children (mostly between the age of 3 and 9) but is not common. Symptoms include red circles with white, thick patches on top of them. These patches can look like curdled milk but you can’t wipe them away very easily. It can be difficult to eat, as it can be very painful.
Diaper rash is an example of a yeast overgrowth as yeast thrives in warm moist areas. The rash is usually red with sharp edges to it.
If Candidiasis isn’t treated it can become much more severe and start to affect other parts of the body including your organs so it is important to get it sorted as soon as possible. If it is your first yeast infection then a Doctor’s visit is a must but it is also important to see your Doctor if it is a recurring issue. If a Candida problem keeps occurring it could be as a result of a more serious underlying issue.
Lastly, make sure you are taking care of your health and well-being. Being overweight and unfit and having a lot of stress in your life can all contribute to yeast infection issues. Overcoming them for good could simply be a case of improving your lifestyle.
